The engagement is in NZ in january, which will be sweet,
such a nice guy, 100x nicer than me!

its stupid

this is why i cant play club soccer, Ive got nothing
in common,

"what all men wish they had"

my remote would be for me and it would have buttons like
play sport, dance, sing, get motivated (4 me and friends),
make film, hallucinate etc.

Poker Nut

Yesterday I must have seemed like a poker nut. I ran into
Angus & Robertson, 15 minutes before it closed, asking them
whether they had any poker books? Guy must have thought I was
playing poker that night, and needed somethign desperately.
They had one book called 'playing winning holdem', looked pretty
comprehensive. Then hopped next door into dymocks, i already know
where the gambling books there are, coz ive bought blackjack
books there before. Looked through their books, nothing good.
Ran to Borders, they closed at 7, but i wanted to check out their
books before angus and robertson closed at 6. Whilst standing
scanning books left and right, thinking they must have something
good, i notice two people's feet standing behind me who were obviously
looking at the same books, Didnt turn around tho, kept scanning
for books, then 30seconds later they were still there. Turned
around and it was paul and jon, apart from humming the song they
were playing on the loud speaker, im pretty sure they thought
it was pretty funny. Said hello, ran back to angus and robertson
bought the holdem book, went back to borders to have another look,
jon i think bought a doyle brunson book, but considering it wasn't
super system, i guess ill wait.

Later carolyne came to pick up some shirts, I was eating dinner
in front of my computer, pokerroom loaded up in one window,
world series of poker day 3 on the other window, and i was reading
the newly acquired book.

The great thing about poker is even the 6month amateur player can
take on the worlds best and win, which other sport can that happen,
anyway its good to be knowledgeable.

Tips for matchroom, play the freeplay tournament on pokerroom,
register by 9.30pm , game starts at 10.30pm.

Poker @ matchroom

Seemed like barts and I were bored come sunday afternoon, I had
a lot of stuff to do, but still thinking about poker, and spent
the afternoon watching world series footage, kindly downloaded
by nai and jon. Everyone needs to watch these clips to start
to understand how to play poker. Great thing is there are lots
of different styles, so you can pick something that suits you.

The not so hush hush matchroom game on Sunday nights, seemed
to me to be as much myth as it was reality. Whist driving down
this little lane in a dodgy part of town, there was a dimly lit
sign saying matchroom. There amongst the billiard club were
a few nicely laid out poker tables. Chad who knows the guy who
knows a guy who knows another a guy who plays, made us feel
pretty welcome. I guess they picked us for suckers and easy money,
but they explained the rules, which had to be explained to me
3 times and then I had to explain it 3 more times to barter. Chad
turned up as well, and he thought wat the hell, initially we were
going to watch but why not play, seemed pretty casual.

Heres quick brief rundown on the competition.

Venue: Matchroom - look it up in whitepages.
the game: No limit texas holdem, nothing else will do.

players : last nights competition saw 46 players, the most they
had, and by the sounds of it, and word of the competition is
spreading quickly, with 15-20 players more in the last 2 weeks.

Composition of players: Nearly all male crowd, prolly 4 female
players, not like the 6:14 ratio on saturday night's game. Its
a young crowd, with alot of younger greek guys, uni students,
and then some people of a variety of ages, older / middle aged
men.

Table size - they ran 5 tables of close to 10 tables. Dedicated
dealer on each table made the game speed fast,

Table play - reasonably strict betting, no bet stringing, pre-call
your bet, else your presumed to call were the type of rules enforced.

Chip betting and rules - ok this is a little confusing, but let
me try...

It cost $5 to make a 1000u chip buy in. 'u' is unit and im
using it instead of $ as its misleading.
Your buy in was made up of:
4 25s 4 100s and 1 500 chips.

So you dont have heaps of chips in front of you (9). You are allowed
to rebuy another additional 1000u worth of chips if your chip stack drops
below a 1000u a max of twice during the first hour. So for example if you
lose 100u after 10 minutes. For $5 you can buy another 1000u, and increase
your chip stack to 1900u. Say with 10 minutes to go your down to 500u,
you can make your final re-buy for another $5 and increase your stack
to 1500u.

At the end of the first hour if you are out, then you have been eliminated.
If you do make it to the end of the first hour with say 1500u, you have
an option to buy 2000u worth of chips for $5. Everyone does this.
So now youd be on 1500u, after spendig somewhere between $10-$20.

From now on there are no re-buy options, and you play with the
chip stack infront of you. Tables are shrunk in size with people being
moved around based on the lowest chip pile being asked to move to
fill in the empty seats. With the idea of getting people on the final
table.

Prizes - Prizes of 10% for 4th , 20% third, 30% second and 40% for
first were allocated on the total prize pool, after a 10% rake was removed.

Blinds - This was the neat part of their tournament, the fast increase
on the blinds based on set time limit, worked well. Blinds started
off at 25/50 for the first half hour, then increasing to 50/100.
Every half hour / 20 minutes they doubled the blinds to 100/200,
200/400, 500/1000, 1000/2000 , 2000/4000, 4000/8000. They froze blinds
at this stage, but increased them when there were only 2 players left.

Let the games begin ....
I sat down on a table, which was typical. 3 young greek guys,
1 older guy, 1 middle aged guy, 1 girl, 1 uni student and
1 guy quoting teddy kgb from rounders . After winning
an early pot, I thought i could strong arm people early on, try
and get to a chip lead in the hour, always knowing if i needed to
I could re-buy chips. Typically I would re-buy early. So if i dropped
to 975, i would buy a 1000 to take me to 1975 and try and win from
there. I soon discovered there were a lot of call stations, a few
people who would go on very little. I had to change my tactic and
after getting into a bad position after 59 minutes, I went all
with about 1300, won that pot and had 3500 had the end of the hour.
Paid the extra $5 for another 2000u and had 5500u going in. Blinds
were 200/400. Our table was dissolved. Barts and chad had a couple
a thousand less than me. With a few people above the 10000u mark.
Really 5000-10000u+ is a number which is competitive. Anything
else and you will get eaten up by blinds early if you dont win
early.

I Played tight, made another 4000 all in at the end of the next table
i was in, won that. Play got moved to 3 tables, barts was also
doing ok. Finally got down to the final table , with 12 people initially
on. People were falling quickly with blinds being increased from 1000/
2000 to 2000/4000. Chad fell 9th. 7 people left, i went all
in, stole some blinds. Went all in again, though i had stolen some more
blinds, barts decided to call me, fker. King/jack v his ace/nine us
were the hands.

Nothing fell, and barts took my stack off me. The final other three players,
not including barts, were all good. Could do the chip tricks and were good
players. Barts caught a boat against a straight on the river, took out
a player, called an all in with jacks and suddenly was in second position.
Eventually he got slow played against a pair of kings and lost, but
not before winning $230!

Lot of fun, very fast and efficient poker. Not really as relaxed as my place,
coz its not friends, and even tho its not really more serious, theres less
sipping beer etc. But highly recommened! Jon would like it coz its fast
paced, and they keep increasing blinds :)

Review of the players - Chad prolly once again called too many pots, but
played pretty well. Those sunglasses of his seemed to work to his disadvantage,
considering he folded a big blind for no reason after laying out 400u, woops:)

RK - I learned pretty quickly, the advantage of the tight game, especially
without chips, at one stage i think there were 13 players on a table, which
is ridiculous. Didnt really come prepared to play, didnt wear my contacts,
so trying to see the flop which seemed 2 miles away. In the end came down
to the all in on barts, perhaps could have made some stronger moves early.

Barts - definately was cautious too, but had the fall of the cards that night,
was he lucky ? well we'll see next week ! But still 2nd prize was great.

I wish i had got the final two, at the moment im running 4 and 0 from
heads up situations. I think its the game of chess style feel, and i start
to get a good read on the player. May be next week ill get a crack.

Prediction: matchroom overflowing to 60+ppl soon, may be they will need to
expand.

thats a lot of blog for one day, and unlike barts i didnt call in
'sick', adios !

A lotta comments

Good getting comments on posts made, should really fix
the time stamp. Just this second my mind overloaded
with too many thought processes, as hard as that may sound,
had to terminate this post!

Supersize me and Fat

I guess it was sorta predictable, but funny none the less, can't
believe they showed him chucking up, yuck. He turned into a
bit of a fatty pretty quick and his liver went downhill.

Before the film tanya called outside , and i just opened the window and
answered the call, confused her , with the stereo sound. Not
many ppl in the cinema, i said you could prolly answer the phone and no
one would care, her phone rang an hour later during the film, but
didnt answer it. Documentaries are good in a way, coz you can even
talk and it doesnt really ruin the mood.

I cant believe how fat people are getting. It would be good
making a documentary how people do everything to avoid getting
any exercise. And how all the diets that are geared to changing
your eating without doing exercise. In some ways we are becoming
so lazy, its scary. Everything is do less , enjoy more
fuck the consquences.

Movie mentioned Nanonlin, or something with a similar name that
acts to block your brain receptors, which they give to heroine
addicts so they dont enjoy it so much. Supposedly the same works
with chocolate addicts. Tanya seemed keen to get a prescription of
that, im sure mitch can arrange something.

I always wondered how they got fat people to be in films,
i mean isnt it sort of degrading being cast as the fat person,
i guess they dont care, at least they're on film. Id feel bad going
up to someone saying, hey i want to cast you as the fat person.

Film said being fat was starting to be as offensive as smoking,
i mean eating junk food is also similar to an addiction. Tho
i think thats a bit unfair as there are people who genetically
get fat a lot lot easier and also have situations where they
have to take drugs for asthma which make them that way. Where
as smoking, its a conscious decision to smoke. But if you
are consciously eating junk food, then its just as bad.

Music was kinda funny to , Rock and roll mac donald, i think
was one of the songs.

Seabiscuit

the story
I wathced seabiscuit the other day, not a bad movie, but surprisingly
it was quite accurately based on the true story, and everything that
you thought that was just hollwood baloney, actually happened in real
life!

Anyway I think people in the devarani syndicate you should watch this movie
before investing in a horse. I picked up some good tips, like the
horse has to want to compete. Deva-rani seems to fail on this point.

Another stupid challenge

The subliminal brunatex pictures was a bit tough. Paul couldnt
make out any images, Nai saw Jon as a monkey (correct!) and
Dayle couldnt thought it was Biggs when it was CA, Brad thought
he saw the devil, which could have been CA.

Like the reverse bike race, you pay $2 to have a shot, and if
you can ride the 5m distance without falling over you win $50.
So ive come up with, if you think you can beat me at foosball
on my table one on one, you pay $2, and if you win I give you
$50.

RK Diet part 2

Other tips on the rk diet. Play foosball, although it doesnt
seem tiring at first, excessive celeberations after scoring
a goal can help work off those pounds. Also play against
someone a lot better than you. The threat of losing pants
down can cause your heart to race and lead to sweating. If
you do lose pants down, the lap around the table is probably
the quickest little run youll do for the day.

sometimes its worth copying

Whilst i like to think im original or capable of original ideas and
free thought, i can acknowledge that sometimes its good to
copy, especially good things that other people doing.

Dayle I definitely know sponsors a world vision child.
And as of now im now sponsoring some child in mozambique who
plays soccer. If i was wearing a hat id take it off to
dayle and others who do similar things. After all its easy and
requires little effort but makes a difference, i hope :)

Lets face it, its pretty much blind luck that i was born into
the situation that im in today. Dont really cook, dont have
to do washing, work an easy job, live in a nice big apartment,
zero problems etc, so why not give up the cost of
foxtel to help someone else?

weekend

Friday - Bruantex gig, i dont really know how well they played,
I spent most of the time talking and watching the video, but it
sounded pretty good i guess. I didnt hear songs one and two
on that cd, which are my favourite, so that was disapointing,
wondered off afterwards.

Saturday -
soccer in the afternoon, met some turkish school kid called
mehran, attempted to do tricks for an hour or so. Almost kicked
the ball into the rymill park lake.

Saw "I robot", not bad. Is there going to be a movie where
robots take over, and its all warm and fuzzy. I like the 3 rules
tho.
1. A robot can not harm a human
2. A robot must listen to a human, except where it is contradiction
to the first rule.
3. A robot must try and protect itself, except where its in
contradiction of rules one and two.

my 3 rules at work.
1. brad will do my work
2. brad can get my lunch, as long as it doesnt contradict with rule 1.
3. brad can do his work as long it doesnt contradict with rules 1 and 2.

Saturday night, watched bits of gods must be crazy 2, good movie,
how happy do those african kids look at the end. I think ill sponsor
a world vision child.

Crazy dave came over, played a lot of foosball, we set a goal
spread, if i could win 10-2 or more i would win, if he could lose
10-4 or less he would win. Eventually i came out on top, free
lunch at ctc !

Went to that party on east tce. good party. Got complimented on my tie,
which was brads tie i borrowed on friday night, really that girl
should have been complementing brad, sorry brad. Spoke to some
crazy french guy and another guy. Good banter, with a frech guy (jacque)
and some other guy at a fast pace. Talking about confusables,
a receptacle for storing ideas that confused you. Potentially avaialable
at wall mart for $10. Interesting archiectecture at that party, courtyard
and 4 bedrooms surrounding it upstairs, went into the attic, turned
on the light, some girl was trying to sleep.

Sunday - editing video and poker. Thought someone had broken in, i think
coz theres been a lot of talk about that lately, realised i didnt
care, went back to sleep.

Suitably impressed

Missi brought the dv tape around for me to edit, well actually,
she forgot the tape and then i forgot to save it
after capturing it and it was a botched editing session.
but she also brought her around fellow worker , sho shares
the same name as a politician.

Anyway all i can say i was very impressed, which is rare:
1. had a real understanding of film - especially action films, ie.
Desperado , True Lies are meant to be stupid they are not
taking themselves seriously. Knew all the actor's names, not
some vague understanding.

2. Whilst brainstorming for what they will do with their
video, came up with good ideas, very sharp, and prepared
to do things on the fly, didnt need everything scripted.

3. When missi said , he eats 8 bananas day, didnt get the
usual "thats crazy" / "ridiculous!" comment, but i eat
4 or 5 oranges today.

impressed!

Poker

Big game last night, 9 players. Much like euro 2004 with greece,
jon was the surprise winner, but also like greece much deserved.
Out foxed paul in a crucial hand to take the game. How many
unbelieveable draws can one person pull in a night, ie. chad,
inside straights, no straight draw, full house, three of a kind,
prolly should've won, but exciting.

Jon suggested a percentage of money be set aside to pay for some
sort of community scheme, ie. chips for the table or an actual
proper table. Would be good if Tanya's dad agreed to build a custom
made table, glass top, underneath railing system to mount the camera
on, possible remote control car, system as well to move camera
around. Could we do this ourselves ?

Positive

In a world where its easy to be negative about lots of things,
your friends, your life, everything in general its just as
easy to be positive about the same things. Its weird everything
is just as good as it is bad. Half full vs half empty.

So focusing on good stuff this week, would like to complete
the film "toilet". It sounds a bit shit, hahah, ok, but it could
be interesting. Person stuck in toilet for 3 days, no concept of
time of day, one source of water the toilet, thats the general
gist. Any good suggestiosn please post.
