More on the law

As i continue to do a little bit more research on the law (pause) I should
remember this stuff, arent I lawyer, or a law graduate , a student of the
law.

De facto relationships?  ok so this has no relevance to me, but I know
people and they know people and, isnt the word "de-facto" such an ugly
word.

When can you say claim an interest in a property that doesn't bear your
name ??

As a result of the new laws, if you can show that you have been in a de facto relationship
for at least 2 years, you can:

Apply to the Family Court for property and maintenance orders.
- Contributions made towards the accumulation of assets will be taken into account

compared to the previous law where for eg. if your name was not in a property, you were
unable to claim an interest in the property.

So you need to have been in a relationship for at least 2 years ! Perhaps that
explains those people whose relationships die after 2 years, perhaps its not
you its the law.

Then there is a series of factors that they look at like, do you live together,
financial dependence, sexual relations, children etc.  Anyway if this could
apply to you, run , run !
